The first of many ancient dragons on our list, Ancient White Dragons have a challenge rating of twenty and are traditionally chaotic evil. These dragons are characterized by their affinity for the cold, are completely immune to cold damage, are capable of traversing icy terrain without a penalty, and have access to a devastating cold breath attack that deals 16d8 of cold damage.
They are most often found in the coldest climates within a world, and tend to be the least intelligent and most animalistic of dragon breeds. While white dragons are the weakest of the chromatic dragons, an ancient white dragon should not be taken lightly.
9 Ancient Copper Dragon
Toting acid breath, the ancient copper dragon is the first metallic dragon on this list. metallic dragons are naturally good aligned and are more likely to aid adventurers rather than fight them. However, if provoked on the context of an evil campaign, they can be terrifying adversaries. Ancient copper dragons are chaotic good in nature and are often notable for their senses of humor.
Possessing a combat rating of twenty-one, in addition to wielding acid breath, ancient copper dragons also wield slowing breath that can greatly hinder opponents' speed and prevent them from making more than one action a turn.
8 Ancient Black Dragon
Another ancient dragon that possesses acidic breath, Ancient Black Dragons are a chaotic evil breed of dragon with a combat rating of twenty-one. Immune to acid, Ancient black dragons are amphibious and often noted as some of the most cruel and sadistic dragons across the lands.

5 Ancient Blue Dragon
One of the strongest forms of chromatic dragons, Ancient Blue Dragons are beings in possession of lightning breath, most commonly appearing as lawful evil. Often found soaring above vast deserts, to say that a blue dragon is arrogant would be a dramatic understatement. They are incredibly prideful creatures that seek to prove their superiority over any adventurers they come in contact with, and even other dragons.
The Lairs of these monstrous foes are often surrounded by sinkholes, dust devils and even massive thunder storms.
4 Ancient Silver Dragon

With a mortifying combat rating of thirty, Tiamat is the five-headed dragon god from which the chromatic dragons originated. With an armor class of twenty-five and immunities to nearly every type of damage inD&D, the act of landing a hit on Tiamat can be an ordeal.
