Dual layer DVD discs
Just wondering if anyone would actually shop anything of importance on a dual layer DVD disc?
This whole dual layer thing seems like a dummy run. Has dual layer burning ever been tested en masse earlier? Prerecorded dual layer discs are not burned, so it'due south a unlike process.
It nigh seems like it's just something some visitor just wanted to see if they could do...

if it comes down like regular dvd blanks have, for sure ppl will burn down stuff on information technology just for the hell of having viii+gb on a disc
i already hate having to spread my backups on multiple dvds, let alone 7x the amount of cds
cost wise for stuff you want to archive, blanks are ever the way to go

If yous're only thinking about copying movies, and then dual layer media is useless. If you have a home movie, that'due south really long and you want it all on ane disc, so information technology's useful. If y'all have a actually large file, or lot's of large files you want stored together, then it'south useful. Information technology's not being marketed towards consumers really yet.... but that will come in another month or so

Well, if one were to copy a DVD with DL DVDRs, they would retain everything (Special Features, both DTS and DD, in essence, it would be an exact re-create). Only I see where the dilemma is...
DL for consumers accept been out for about a year now, until the DL media goes down, I don't remember it will catch on in the meantime.

If only they tin bring the price of blanks down. I wouldn't heed paying $1 a disc for them every bit that would hateful less switching for me for important programs/files/calculator backups of my files.

What I was really request was... would you TRUST dual layer media with your archived information? Would you trust the longevity of dual layer media as much as you lot trust the longevity of single layer media?

What is "almost lossless pinch", is that lossless or lossy?
No, most electric current motion picture DVD are dual layer, use dvdthrink, y'all will have to either compress it to dvd-5, or separate information technology on two dvd-5. Either way, it's not equally good as doing a 1:one image on a dvd-9 disc. I'one thousand willing to pay upward to $2 for a dual layer disc, rather than two thirty cents dvd-five.

Because, to my knowledge, this is the commencement time dual layer called-for has been attempted on a wide scale. And, it seems to have been brought to marketplace very quickly. Since the longevity of DVD+/-R media is in question anyhow, I just wonder if anyone is more or less probable to trust dual layer media than single layer media. For example, does deterioration occur more quickly with one or both layers on a two-layer disc?

Its really no different and so unmarried layer, just that the acme layer on a dual layer disc the height layer is merely slightly transparent (merely enough for the laser to become through) so really when it comes downwards to its, they are do different so a single layer disc. Simply bio dye.

I may exist wrong, only I don't recall you accept to flip the disc to read the other layer, the laser sees past the offset layer when it needs to access the second. Only like the movies you rent, you lot don't have to flip them, the only time I take seen ones that you have to flip is the odd time they will have widescreen on one side and standard on the other.
